Dawn "Marissa Dawn"
Dawn is a 24 year old Arabian mare. She is the dam of Peaches and Trixie. Dawn came to Elmwood Farm as a broodmare and was then retired. Dawn foaled Trixie in May of 2009. She was recently started back under saddle and is loving her "new" job of riding!
In Memory Of...
"Somewhere.....somewhere in time's own space
There must be some sweet pastured place
Where creeks sing on and tall trees grow
Some Paradise where horses go.
For by the love that guides my pen
I know great horses live again."
-Stanley Harrison

Kayla
Kayla "came with the farm" when we bought it in 2000. She eagerly accepted our whole family as part of her pack. She was a wonderful dog who appreciated all the attention lavished on her by her new "owners". Kayla spent many years of her life as a "watch dog" at Elmwood. We never had anything to worry about while Kayla was on the job! She kept "her" farm safe at all times. Her favorite activity was when she got to ride into town. Due to her advanced age of 15(ish) Kayla was laid to rest at the farm in October of 2009.
Celio
Dilly's Divine "Dilly"
Dilly came to us from Susan's best friend in Bermuda. She had been born there and had to learn how to be a horse after moving to Virginia! She was the leader of the herd for many years after her retirement. It was with great sadness that we had to lay Dilly to rest in July 2010 due to colic.
Stop Drop and Roll "Scottie"
Scottie's last ride before he was retired in 2009.
Scottie was a life long friend to Susan and all of his lesson students. He moved here to be with Susan in 2002, after retiring from her old lesson program in Tennessee, and was one of the first lessons horses in her program here. Scottie faithfully taught students from beginners to intermediates, always having something to teach everyone. He got his show name "Stop Drop and Roll" because he would roll in the first available patch of dirt once you turned him loose. He was known for his field of mares that he lived in during his retirement. Scottie was laid to rest in February 3, 2012 due to colic. He will be greatly missed at Elmwood Farm.
Faith
Faith came to us as rescue case in 2007. She was nothing but skin and bones and we were unsure if she was going to make it. She regained her health and got to live out her last years in a field fat and healthy! Unfortunately due to her declining health and age she had to be put to sleep in February 2012.
Mack
Mack was purchased through Camelot Auctions in May 2011 saving him from the meat buyers. Unfortunately he had numerous under lying health problems that were not able to be treated. He lived out the last year of his life eating all he could and enjoying life.
May I go Now?
Do you think the time is right?
May I say good-bye to pain filled days
And endless lonely nights?
I've lived my life and done my best,
an example tried to be.
So can I take that step beyond
and set my spirit free?
I didn't want to go at first.
I fought with all my might.
But something seems to draw me now
to a warm and loving light.
I want to go. I really do.
It's difficult to stay.
But I will try as best I can
to live just one more day.
To give you time to care for me
and share your love and fears.
I know you're sad and afraid,
because I see your tears.
I'll not be far, I promise that,
and hope you'll always know
that my spirit will be close to you,
wherever you may go.
Thank you so for loving me.
You know I love you too,
that's why it's hard to say good-bye
and end this life with you.
So hold me now, just one more time
and let me hear you say,
because you care so much for me,
you'll let me go today.

Dr. Doolittle
I am sad to say that on Friday, July 20, 2012, we laid Doolittle to rest. Doolittle was around 34 years old. He was diagnosed with cancer in February 2012 and despite all of our efforts, our vets efforts, and his efforts to fight it, in the end, the best decision for him was to lay him to rest. Doolittle will always be remembered by all of the students, TACO Campers, and everyone that met him. He was a very special pony to anyone who met him.
A huge thank you to all of the vets at Old Dominion Equine for all of their efforts and countless hours they put forth in to helping diagnosis Doolittle and allowing him to live his last days pain free.

Rose
Like many of our animals, Rose has been with us for years. She moved with me from Tennessee and was a part of our family. Sadly in September 2012, Rose was laid to rest age the age of 15. She was able to quietly pass at the place she called home, thanks to our caring vets at Old Dominion Equine. She was a fantastic barn watch dog, and will always be remembered by anyone who visited Elmwood Farm. She is now off chasing rabbits with Kayla and Chomper, pain free.
Dawn "Marissa Dawn"
Dawn came to Elmwood Farm in 2000 with a foal on her side. She was a wonderful mother, producing a beautiful filly, Trixie, in 2009. Dawn stared back under saddle in 2010 and was retired at the age of 23. Unfortunately, in 2014 Dawn had an accident in the field.
